What's the difference between notebooks?
Convenient and compact notepads are used almost daily. Depending on the configuration, the notepad can act as a gift for an executive, a souvenir or advertising product, as well as become an extension of the corporate style of the company. In this article, let's take a closer look at what notepads are, their sizes, and ways of stapling.
Standard notebook sizes and formats
The first thing to think about when ordering branded printing is the parameters of the notepad. On what size notepad you need and what its application area will largely depend on its design and cost. Of the standard, there are the following formats:
- A3 (42 x 29.7 cm) is more like a sketchbook, and is often used by artists for quick sketches.
- A4 (29.7 x 21 cm) - this format of notebooks and the significant size of the sheets allow you to make tables and fit a lot of information, so they are often ordered for administrators and office managers for stationary use.
- A5 (21 x 14.8 cm) is one of the most popular sizes, which not only allows for a large amount of information, but also fits easily into a bag.
- A6 (14.8 x 10.5 cm) - printing in this format is very compact and allows you to carry it everywhere.
- A7 (10.5 x 7.4 cm) - These notebooks are often used to record phone numbers or small notes.
What a notebook consists of?
Each product consists of several elements, the execution of which will depend on its appearance. There are the following components of a notebook:
- Cover, backing
- Inner Block
- Staple (jointing element)
The skin, the backing (For example, Notebook White Wood). Most often cardboard, leather or ecopolymer material is used for its production. Leather cover looks very presentable and status. However, leather requires special care, and its cost is much more expensive than other options. Leather notebooks are often used as souvenirs and are great for gifts. Ecopolymer is a dense artificial coating, the main advantage of which is water resistance. Such cover reliably protects the sheets, but looks less presentable than leather cover. Cardboard is the most affordable material, so it is often used when producing large print runs or promotional products. It is inferior to other materials in its characteristics, but allows the realization of any design solution. Additionally, the cover can be equipped with small pockets for business cards.
Inner Block. Paper density largely determines the quality of the finished product, because it determines the thickness and strength of the sheets. Standard paper with density from 80 to 170 g/m2, or coated paper (from 90 to 200 g/m2) is used in polygraphy production. The higher the density, the thicker and more expensive the notebook. Sheets can be ruled, made in corporate style or remain blank. The number of sheets also affects the appearance of the notebook or diary: the way they are bound will depend on how many pages are in the notebook.
Binding. Notepads are most often fastened with staples, springs, CBC, rings, and bolts. The design of the notebook may include a special clasp or rubber band that will hold the cover closed. It protects the notebook from opening when dropped, thereby preventing the loss of important information.
Types of notebook mounts
Notepads can be stapled together:
- Staple binding. Notebooks that are no thicker than 64 pages can be stapled together with two staples, and in some cases the number of staples may vary.
- Binding with a spring. Plastic or metal springs can be used for binding.
- Adhesive Bonding Method (ABC). Binding block with the cover of the notebook is done with hot melt or PUR-glue. The main difference between this method of attachment to each other in durability.
- Binding on rings
- Binding on bolts
Ways to print notepads
- Digital printing of notepads. Used for small and medium runs of 1 or more pieces.
- Offset printing of notepads. Used for medium and large print runs. The optimal minimum circulation is 100 pcs.
